Celebration of 25 Years of Service to the Jewish Community

Celebration of 25 Years of Service to the Jewish Community

On Wednesday, November 22, at Shaar Hashomayim Congregation, MADA Community Center celebrated its annual gala, marking the organization’s 25th year of service to Montreal’s Jewish community.

Close to five hundred people attended the event, whose honouree was the community activist and philanthropist, Marc Kakon. The guests enjoyed delicious food, open bar and were entertained by the famous Gregory Charles.

The evening highlighted MADA’s growth since its inception, demonstrating how it became the main address for the fight against hunger in Montreal. Awards were given to ten exceptional supporters who pooled their wisdom in order to change the face of poverty in our community: Mr. Andy Harper, Brenda and Shmuel Gewurz, Helen and Stanley Cons, Ricky and David Merovitz, Anat and Gary Richman, and Andrew Christopoulos, president of Sysco Services Alimentaires du Canada Inc.

Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Cohen, MADA’s Executive Director, talked:

“Our goal is to strive and reach the other 80% of Montreal’s Jewish poor, who desperately need the help MADA can give them. By saving one life, we are saving a world!”

As international singer Enrico Macias sings

“Quand on a un frère malheureux, on ne peut pas fermer les yeux”

Special thanks to MADA’s committees and to the generosity of the Montreal community for their support in making our annual gala a great success. ♥♥♥

“Open your heart to help MADA continues on this beautiful journey.” – Mr. Kakon, MADA Gala Honouree
