5th Annual Art Auction

MADA Helps Fight Hunger by “Turning Tears Into Laughter” at 5th Annual Art Auction and Comedy Night.

The MADA Community center, Quebec’s largest kosher soup kitchen and food bank, hosted its 5th annual Masterpieces 4 MADA (M4M) Art Auction Comedy Night on Tuesday June 10th, 2014 at the Corona Theatre. Sponsors, volunteers and supporters attended this inspiring evening which not only showcased and auctioned unique masterpieces created by community artists and students but also featured a hilarious comedy show.

Over $150,000 was raised to help fund the MADA cafeteria and two long-time MADA donors were moved to donate a brand new truck for deliveries!

The goal of the event was to raise funds to provide food for those less fortunate and to create awareness about poverty. “So far, our cafeterias serve 298,183 meals a year to our patrons, but the referrals continue and we are obliged to accommodate more people – many more!” said Rabbi Chaim Shlomo Cohen, MADA Director.

Guests were treated to delicious food and drinks as well as a side-splittingly funny comedic line-up featuring local actor and comedian Joey Elias as Master of Ceremonies, Just for Laughs regulars David Acer and Phil Shuchat and headliner Wendy Liebman, a regular guest on late night television with her own half-hour specials for HBO and Comedy Central.

This year the event was Co-Chaired by the dynamic and devoted MADA volunteers Fran Derkson and Anat Mordehay. “It was incredibly moving to see the community come together for such an important cause. As weekly volunteers, we see first-hand how essential MADA’s services are. We are honoured to be part of the MADA family and committed to helping raise much needed funds to sustain and support this invaluable organization.”

Thank you to everyone for making this event so special and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
