Once again MADA’s annual Rosh Hashanah dinners were a huge success. Over 2500 Montrealers who are alone or without means received a sumptuous, three course traditional dinner (complete with wine, new fruits, apples dipped in honey and honey cake) – all at no charge.
The recital of the Kiddush and joyful Hebrew songs uplifted everyone who attended, including our dedicated volunteers who served the meals so graciously. Two weeks before the event it took 500 volunteers to peel, chop, process and cook over 10,000 pounds of fresh produce, 2000 pounds of salmon and 1500 chickens. Awesome!
Thank you!
To the hosting sponsors and donors!
To the dedicated Mada volunteers who set up at the 11 different locations, served and ensured that all participants were cared for and satisfied.
To all the Rosh Hashanah attendees!
As Sandra Cohen, a participant at the Gelber location commented,
“The holiday spirit that was felt and the caring of the volunteers made the evening so meaningful”.
During the following weeks of Rosh Hashanah, more meals will be prepared for the break -fast of Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah holidays. 3150 Shabbat to Share boxes will be delivered during this holiday month containing Shabbat and holiday meals thanks to Mada’s indispensable and devoted volunteers and drivers.
Mada volunteer, Andrea, summed it up, “Starting the new year with so much giving and sharing makes life so much more meaningful to me. Knowing that so many in our community benefited from the true joy and family warmth of Rosh Hashanah should inspire us all to continue with these good deeds all year long!”
